February 8, 2020: Goldfish Warning! (GfW) Episode 50 will probably become ready to release this month. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Episode 49 has not yet been translated at all. This happened because the two episodes were assigned to different translators and, as it turned out, the translator for 50 is faster and much more motivated [Ep 51 has been already trasnalted too!] while the translator for 49 is a busy person.
February 18, 2020: GfW49 has been translated. Since GfW50 is already semi-ready and GfW51 has been translated too, we should be able to release a few GfW episodes one after another, relatively quickly — quickly for honobono, that is. GfW1 was released 15 years ago in 2005 — that’s so ridiculous it’s almost impressive! The next release is probably Gyu8, though, as it’s now near RC3.
March 2, 2020: Goldfish Warning! (GfW) Episode 49 “Beware of the School Newspaper / Bad Ox Becomes Good” was typeset and test-encoded as RC1. Though the script (translated text) was created two weeks ago (Feb 18), typesetting took two weeks because the episode has a lot of on-screen text, including four different newspaper pages. This may be the hardest GfW episode to typeset. Anyway, the GfW project is now progressing steadily, faster than before: Episodes 49, 50, 51 are all more or less ready.
April 2, 2020: GfW49 and 50, especially 49, are practically ready to release. However, the person who usually does final-checking and releasing (rctgamer3) is currently being MIA [PS: he’s just busy irl]. GfW51 (RC1) has been typeset.
May 10, 2020: GfW53 has been translated — the next ep (54) is the last! GfW52 RC1 should be ready in a few days. GfW51 RC2 is soon to be QCed. GfW50 RC3 was already QCed and the script is to be updated.
May 16, 2020: GfW50 RC4 was encoded yesterday. This one is near-final, if not the final, and the release ETA of GfW50 is within 10–14 days (perhaps the next weekend or the weekend after that), after final-checking and, if needed, final-tweaking. GfW51 (RC2) has been so far QCed by 2 QCers.
May 27, 2020: The next release is probably GfW50 (RC5): now RC4 is being checked and a few minor revisions are planned. GfW51 is also near ready: we have QCed GfW51 RC2 and made about 60 minor revisions so far, but there are still a few things to be decided.
June 12, 2020: (1) We are not yet ready to release GfW50 (RC6 prepared on June 6 is almost-final but not quite). After final-checking, there is at least one line we want to change (though it’s rather minor), and we need some more time (at least a few days, perhaps one or two weeks), as the editor wants to double-check everything. Meanwhile, we can work on other episodes. (2) GfW51 is near-final; after deciding on about 5 lines, we can prepare RC3.
June 24, 2020: (1) GfW50 RC6 was encoded on June 6 [and GfW50 RC7 was encoded on June 19], but it’s not ready: there was one minor edit on June 9, and after final-checking the editor made 5 more changes on June 16; then one very minor change was made on June 18; finally two more lines were questioned on June 18 — still TBD [PS: on June 26, these two lines were judged as okay as-is after all]. We are getting a little too paranoid! (2) GfW51 is essentially ready, yet we can’t really concentrate on it until 50 is released.
July 31, 2020: GfW51 has been fully QCed and updated, now near ready (RC3). Only fine-tuning is necessary, and RC4 might be releasable.
August 9, 2020: Goldfish Warning! (GfW) 51 RC4 was encoded yesterday, to be final-checked soon.
August 19, 2020: Goldfish Warning! (GfW) 51 RC5 was encoded on August 17 with two minor changes, and final-checked okay. To be released soon.

So basically, we’re about to complete the GfW project, although we still need significant time measured in months, having four episodes to release (51, 52, 53, 54). After GfW54, we will start subbing Idol Angel Yōkoso Yōko (YY), while continuing Fushigiboshi no ☆ Futagohime Gyu!. You might think we should concentrate on Gyu without starting something new, but our Gyu release is slow largely because our Gyu encoder is currently very busy; also, the current translator for GfW and that for Gyu are different persons. So basically, no matter whether we start a new (post-GfW) project or not, Gyu won’t become faster nor slower. (2) GfW51 has been fully QCed and updated, now near ready (RC3). Only fine-tuning is necessary, and RC4 might be releasable. (3) GfW52, too, has been fully QCed and semi-updated; RC2 will be created soon, perhaps in a week or so. (4) GfW53 RC1: Typeset (softsub) done. Todo: Typeset (hardsub) + Encode, eta 5–7 days. (5) Gyu09 will be typeset after GfW53. Though typesetting won’t take long, the encoder may be very busy.
August 9, 2020: (1) Goldfish Warning! (GfW) 51 RC4 was encoded yesterday, to be final-checked soon. (2) GfW52 RC2: the script updated, currently being encoded. [PS: encoded on August 10] (3) GfW53 RC1 was finally encoded yesterday, meaning, essentially we now have only one GfW episode to go. August 19, 2020: (1) Goldfish Warning! (GfW) 51 RC5 was encoded on August 17 with two minor changes, and final-checked okay. To be released soon. Release ETA = September 5–15 (?). (2) GfW53 RC2 was encoded today. This is also near ready. (3) GfW54 (the last ep) is being typeset: RC1 eta = around Sept 1–5. (4) Gyu09: still waiting for encoding. (5) Gyu10: to be typeset next (after GfW54).
September 7, 2020: Goldfish Warning! (GfW) 52 RC4 was created on Setember 5, and now being final-checked by the editor. There are going to be a few minor edits, giving it a final touch, and perhaps we can release RC5 this coming weekend (Sept 12–13).
September 14, 2020: Goldfish Warning! (GfW) 52 RC5 was created. We should be able to release it soon, hopefully in several days.
September 21, 2020: Yesterday (Sept 20) we were about to release Goldfish Warning! 52 (RC5), but this release was canceled at the last minute because we wanted to change a certain line. RC6 was created today with a minor revision.

The visual difference is not so significant though, because frame-by-frame cleaning is routinely done in our GfW releases and noticeably dirty frames were already cleaned in v1.

One score minus five years ago, that is to say 15 years ago, our fansub team brought forth a new project, conceived in happiness, with a beautiful metaphor that all students, human or non-human, are equally valued and coexist peacefully. Now we are releasing the final episode, Goldfish Warning!, Episode 54. The world will little note, nor long remember what we subbed here, but it can never forget what Wapiko, Gyopi, Chitose, Bad Ox, and others did. It is rather for us old-school fansubbers to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that those old shows from 1990s or so shall not be ignored, overlooked, and forgotten in vain, and that free subbing communities of the fans, by the fans, for the fans, shall not perish from the earth.

This is a set of 15 files — Episodes 40 through 54 (last), of which ten files are new (a few mistranslations fixed, and generally, slightly tweaked and improved), while five episodes (48, 49, 51, 52, 53v2) remain unchanged, as they’re already good enough.
These eight files are higher-quality (256 MiB/ep) than the v1s (180 MiB/ep): 40v2, 41v2, 42v2, 43v2, 44v2, 45v2, 46v2, 47v2.
Each file is x264+vorbis.mkv, 256 MiB, soft-subbed (except logos and signs are hard-subbed).

NOTE: In 47v1 (2019), the episode title of the second half was “Give Chii-chan a Nightmare”; in 47v2 (2021), we have changed that to “Give Chii-chan Nightmares”.
This is supposed to be the first batch for the softsub version of Goldfish Warning!. The second batch (ETA: a few months?) will be 20v2–39v2, the third batch (no ETA) will be 1v2–19v2. Batches for Goldfish Warning! v2 are MKV-only; AVI (hardsub) versions are not planned, except that the AVI version of 53v2 is available.
To watch softsubbed MKV files, Windows users can try MPC-BE or MPC-HC; Linux/Mac users can try mpv. As of May, 2021, VLC is not recommended, because it is not yet stable enough, even having a fatal bug, where a Vorbis audio track doesn’t play right (many of our MKV releases, including Goldfish Warning!, use Vorbis as audio).
Naka Tomoko (中友子) voiced Santa/Ina-chan/Takapii’s Mom/Jellyfish. While she is correctly credited in many episodes (41, 42, 47–54), her name is erroneously written as Naka Yūko in Eps. 43, 45, 46. The error was noticed on May 18, 2021, after the release (May 12). We will fix it if we ever do 43v3, 45v3, 46v3.
