* Andō Masahiro (安藤真裕 who worked or is working for Production I.G, P.A.Works, Bones [read: Bonzu]) and “our” Andō Masahiro (安藤正浩 who worked for Toei, etc. and did Yōkoso Yōko, Kingyo Chūihō! [Goldfish Warning!], Sailor Moon, etc.) are different animators, although their names are identical in romaji. When this memo was written in January, 2007, the Anime News Network Encyclopedia was treating those two artists as if they were one person:

Just like “Ann” vs. “Anne” in English, phonetically identical names spelled differently are not uncommon in Japanese. Just like you may say “Anne with an E,” or “A as in Apple,” Japanese speakers can clarify the spelling of a name in spoken communication, when necessary: the first Masahiro (真裕) can be explained as “Masa is shin as in shinjitsu, hiro is yū as in yoyū”, while our Masahiro (正浩) can be explained as “Masa is tadashii, hiro is sanzui and tsugeru.” That being said, a situation like this is rather confusing and inconvenient; even native Japanese speakers often mispronounce and/or misspell people’s names. For example, fans of Honda Chieko (本多知恵子) tend to misspell her names variously (although being her fans, they can’ṭ spell her name right!) — because both “Honda” and “Chieko” have multiple possible spellings in kanji.
